J.P. Buckingham is a partner at Triterra and serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and an Associate Geologist for the firm. His responsibilities include overseeing work completed in the service group, while managing and assisting staff with Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Environmental Transaction Screens (ETS), Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEAs), Due Care Evaluations/Plans, State and Local Brownfield Tax Increment Finance (TIF) Plans, Site Assessment and Brownfield Redevelopment Grant/Loan Applications, and building inspections associated with property transactions. J.P. routinely assists developers, businesses, and communities integrate appropriate brownfield incentives and environmental due diligence solutions into a strategic approach to real estate acquisition and brownfield redevelopment.
J.P. has more than 16 years of experience in the manufacturing industry and environmental consulting. Eleven of his 16 years have been spent working directly with property owners, banks, developers, construction companies, real estate agents, and communities deal with the challenges associated with acquiring and developing property. He is focused on the strategic development of Brownfield properties, from dealing with the complex environmental challenges, to creating a unique financial incentive package, which drives value to our clients’ bottom line. Over the course of his career, J.P. has assisted developers, businesses, and/or local units of governments obtain over $10,000,000 in brownfield/redevelopment incentives through TIF plans, tax credits, grants, and/or redevelopment loans. Additionally, he has conducted numerous Phase I ESAs, subsurface assessments, BEAs, and Due Care Plans for residential, commercial, and industrial sites. These sites included undeveloped parcels ranging in size from 5 to 300 acres, retail strip malls, gasoline filling stations, dry cleaners, automobile repair shops, high-rise commercial buildings, and manufacturing facilities.
J.P. holds Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Hope College (Holland, Michigan). In addition to his studies and experience, he maintains professional certifications as a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) and a licensed State of Michigan Asbestos Building Inspector.
